GHTD Paratransit Facility
east hartford - 2017
Through a campaign to improve their commitment to provide exceptional ADA transport services, GHTD studied and selected a site for the construction of a modern Para-transit Maintenance & Operations Facility. GWG Architects and Wendel PC teamed up to design the new state-of-the-art facility. Located on a 5.8 acre site [the former Elks Lodge Building], the new two-story building has a 24,000 SF footprint and is a total of 36,000 SF.
The innovative design creates separate stacked operations and maintenance areas with an extensive bus vehicle storage parking lot. There is ample staff and visitor parking with drives to efficiently circulate buses, cars, and maintenance vehicles. The operations area includes a training room, dispatch area, reservations area, scheduler area, copier and storage room, server room, drivers’ break room, lunch room, and management offices. The maintenance area consists of: five maintenance bays; storage areas, parts room, mechanic’s room, 2 wash bays with closed loop water reclamation system [96% efficiency], vehicle parking, restrooms/ locker rooms, and fueling stations. Throughout the facility, natural light harvesting and operable windows [synchronized with the HVAC controls] were utilized to improve user comfort and reduce the owner’s operational costs.
